After discovering a love for ice hockey and attending many Nottingham Panthers games, Arnold Hill student Lewis Loasby, decided to pick up a stick and started his ball hockey journey in July 2019 when he joined the Nottingham Huskies Under 13 team.
Under the guidance and tuition of his coaches Lewis quickly picked up the key skills and developed into a natural defenseman. Unfortunately, Covid cut his first season short; he did however, win his first honour with the team becoming National Champions for the Under 13’s level.
Lewis continued to work hard refining his skills during the lockdown, and his hard work was rewarded as he became a pivotal part of the now Under 16’s team, scoring the winning goal in the final of a National Qualifier as the team progressed and went on to win the 2021 National Championships. This added to his honours which now also included being a Champion in the Junior Draft Tournament earlier in the year.
As Lewis’s ability grew so did his confidence, and with that the opportunity to trial for the Under 16’s Men’s GB ball hockey team. Lewis seized the opportunity and was selected to be part of the team who will be competing in the ISBHF World Junior Ball Hockey Championships hosted in Slovakia in late June 2022.
Lewis will be competing against the best Under 16’s on the planet and may even come up against some future NHL superstars. With hard work, dedication and the drive to succeed, Lewis has come a long way in a short space of time and is so proud to be representing Team GB and Arnold Hill Spencer Academy as he embarks on his latest ball hockey adventure!
